K75 (740cc) 1989

Instead of orienting the engine across the frame, as on so many Japanese machines, BMW chose to position it longitudinally in the K-series. To keep the weight low, BMW flopped the engine over on oits side. The engine and transmission are simply bolted to the one-sided swing-arm/shaft-drive unit; the frame just drops down onto the drive package on the assembly line.
